A growing international technology company with multi-billion dollar sales revenue, has an exciting and challenging opportunity for an experienced Electrical Engineer to act as the Electrical Systems Design Engineer and the Building Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) group.  The company is a business unit within a company that is engaged in the design, integration, installation, marketing, and sale of solar power systems.  Our innovative energy technology products deliver solutions to enable residential and commercial customers gain their energy independence while improving the environment.  We are looking for a motivated individual to join our dedicated and passionate team to help us build and grow. 

This electrical engineer will design, analyze and evaluate building integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) modules and systems for residential and commercial solar arrays.  This is a hands-on position that requires a demonstrated history of design, build, debug and test of electrical circuits for BIPV Modules and systems.  The electrical circuit design will need to meet regulatory compliance requirements and be capable of mass production.  The successful candidate will possess the ability to design and engineer solar electrical systems; assure building code compliance and electrical system reliability.  Additional competencies include effectively working in a visible, fast paced, multidisciplinary team environment and being capable of working with multiple organizations including outside companies, agencies and laboratories to achieve goals.  Additional requirements include the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively and have proven decision-making skills, excellent communication, documentation, and customer service skills. 

Other key responsibilities include:

  • Electrical system design, build and testing of residential and commercial photovoltaic modules and arrays
  • Develop and implement electrical testing plan for BIPV modules and systems including Inverters, disconnects, diodes and wiring
  • Develop system for monitoring field deployed solar systems and track their reliability
  • Develop diagnostic devices for evaluating solar system performance including identification of failed components
  • Identify electrical system requirements and components necessary to meet electrical code compliance, ensuring BIPV systems meet the highest safety, environmental and regulatory standards
  • Knowledge and/or experience in electrical interconnect design
  • Conduct/oversee testing, verification, corrective actions and commissioning of BIPV modules and systems
  • Provide engineering support to field installation team and subcontractors as appropriate
  • Monitor commercially available products that might be used to improve on future design
  • Prepare product documentation, detailed electrical system designs, writing reports and giving presentations.

Qualifications: A BS, MS or Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering is required for this role.  Minimum of 5 years experience in a related field with the skill sets to apply that knowledge to photovoltaic power systems, maintenance, diagnostic and troubleshooting techniques.  Understanding of the engineering documents associated with electrical systems and demonstrated experience of electrical codes, governing body standards and regulations (NEC, IBS, IEEE etc.) and industry trends is strongly desired.  Knowledge and/or experience in photovoltaic cell and module testing and reliability analysis, electronic circuits, and PV inverters also desired.  Up to 25% travel for this role.
